Sam Saunders admitted Brentford were fortunate to take all three points from Monday's trip to Reading but felt it helped balance out previous games they deserved more from.

The Bees were on the back foot for the majority of the 90 minutes as the home side forced 12 corners.

But, aside from Garath McCleary's well-worked goal, the Royals couldn't break Brentford down and the visitors made them pay with sensational goals from Ryan Woods and Sergi Canos.

Saunders said: “I was saying to some of the lads that it was quite nice to not deserve all three points but come away with them.

“I've lost count of how many times where it's been the other way round so today is quite nice to come away from home and get the three points.

“It was two wonderful strikes. Sergi was a piece of magic and Woodsy was a great strike.

“They say everything balances itself out. We probably deserved three points against Brighton and not today. Taking your chances matter and we did that.”

Saunders paid tribute to the quality of Woods and Canos' goals that helped them to victory.

“We looked and were expecting (Woods' shot) to go into the crowd,” he joked. “It's a fantastic strike. We needed to go 1-0 up and it gave us something to build on.

“It was a great touch from Sergi. It was a great diagonal ball from Woodsy. It left Sergi one on one with a full back who's not used to being a full back and it's a fantastic finish.”

He added: “He's only 18. He's got bags of potential and I think the management use him very well at the minute by bringing him in and out of the side.

“He gets tired in games as well. It was good to start him off the bench on Saturday and he's enjoying himself.”
