EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey has revealed that sides face long Tuesday night trips in a bid to keep Saturday games local.

Brentford have faced lengthy trips to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday nights in three of the last four seasons.

Fulham made the long trip to Leeds earlier this campaign for a 0-0 draw, while QPR travel to Sheffield United in February.

However, the three west London sides' games with Reading are all currently scheduled to take place on weekends. Fulham drew 0-0 there in August.

"We make that scheduling choice to get bigger games at weekends because that provides better atmosphere and increases gate revenue for clubs," Harvey told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"The flip side is that those games that are at a distance have to go into midweek.

"It is a deliberate act - but the reason for it is to ensure we get bigger crowds at weekends rather than lower crowds in the midweek."

That being said, Rangers' home games with Fulham and Brentford have been moved to weeknights due to Sky coverage.
