BRENTFORD once again won the Community Club of the Year Award at the 2009 Football League Awards.

The club received the prestigious gong on Sunday during a special dinner at Grosvenor House,Park Lane,in recognition of the superb work of Brentford's Community Sports Trust.

The trust now reaches more than 100 schools and 40 housing estates in the boroughs around the club, offering 5,000 sports sessions across 10 sports last year.

Around 50 full and part-time staff work on projects like KICKZ, Bee Educated, Bee Healthy and the new Brentford Boating Arch at Kew Bridge.

But their key achievement in 2008 was the growth of their disability programme, securing significant new funding and taking on a full-time disability officer.

One judge, Liz Lowe, who is a citizenship manager at Coca-Cola, said: "Brentford offer an amazing broad range of activities with a strong focus on disability programmes.

"The new boating centre is a real asset and is right up there with the best."

Former Brentford centre-back, and a member of the club's supporters' trust Bees, Jimmy Hill was also awarded the Contribution to League Football.

Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney said: "During a career spanning nearly 60 years, Jimmy Hill has made a significant contribution to League football.

"His influence is still being felt in many areas of the game. After all, it was Jimmy who was responsible for the introduction of three points for a win and the use of panels of pundits to comment on televised matches."

But both Charlie MacDonald, who was nominated as League Two Player of the Season, and Robin Nicholls, nominated as League Two Apprentice of the Year, did not win their categories.
