Jordan Rhodes' injury time goal rescued a point for the Bees at Accrington Stanley on Tuesday and shot his new team to the top of League Two for the first time, writes Yann Tear.

But Alan Bennett said there would be no big celebrations just yet, even if the feelgood factor is high going into this Saturday's clash with Port Vale at Griffin Park.

"It sounds pretty good being top. It's a good place to be," the central defender told the Gazette. "It has a nice ring to it and it's a good feeling that hopefully will continue.

"But of course you win nothing in February and we are well aware of the situation.

Wycombe have two games in hand, so nobody's getting carried away with anything yet. I think the policy is still just to take one game at a time, but the countdown is on.

"Once we hit the last 10, it will really go quickly."

The Bees earned much praise from boss Andy Scott for the way they kept going until the end to rescue what looked like another lost cause in the north west - where they have lost four times this season.

Bennett is also delighted with the signal it sends out.

"I'm not sure of the stats, but I think if you look back at our season, quite a lot of our goals have come in the last quarter of our games," he said. "I think that's quite a good reflection of our level of fitness as well as our mental strengths.

"All the work we've done on the training ground is paying off for us and that could be very important in the final third of the league.

"It wasn't our best performance by a long way and [assistant boss] Terry Bullivant ripped into us a bit at half-time because our performance was a bit limp in the first half.

"We were pretty pumped up after that and although we conceded a goal, the momentum was with us and it was maybe no surprise that we managed to equalise."

Rhodes' strike was his fifth goal in as many appearances since signing on loan from Ipswich and it underlined what a timely injection he has provided.

"He's worth double his weight in gold," Bennett said. "He's been brilliant.

"I've only seen him once or twice in training but he's delivered every time on the pitch for us and he's enjoying the experience.

"He's got a big smile on his face all the time. It's great for him and it's great for us as well."

The Bees are in a great position considering a punishing schedule of long away trips and three midweek games in a row.

Now at last they will have a chance to regroup because there is no Tuesday game this week.

"We seem to have been on the bus for the last three weeks travelling to all these games up north," Bennett observed.

"We didn't get back until three o'clock in the morning after Tuesday night's game and it puts your sleep and work patterns out of sync.

"We are looking forward to getting back to a normal week without having to play a midweek game.

"We also have nine of our last 16 games at home, so that will be good for us."
