Fundraisers representing Brentford FC Community Sports Trust completed the Ride London challenge on Sunday, with 26 riders successfully tackling the course from a team of 27.

The riders too part in a 100 mile, new 46 mile or Peloton relay, consisting of three teams of four.

There was team training prior and all the riders were welcomed at the finish line with a team-celebration ‘Picnic in the Park’, where a well-deserved drink – supplied by local brewery Fullers – was waiting for them.

Lee Doyle, CEO at Brentford FC Community Sports Trust said “It is great to be part of a Bees team, we have riders from the trust, club, business partners and our local community all wearing the special edition Bees cycling shirt.

“Fundraising is a major source of income for the Trust, and creates the opportunity to not only deliver our existing projects, but also to continue to grow.

“I would like to thank all of the riders and sponsors who made the event the success it was – we are aiming to raise over £15,000.

Tomas Abreu, business support officer said “I was employed as a direct result of the money raised at Ride London last year, so I felt that it was a good opportunity to give something back.

“The crowds on the day were amazing throughout the course. It has given me the bug for cycling and I am now looking at other events to take part in.”

Ruth Cadbury, MP for Brentford and Isleworth, completed the final 25 miles of the course as part of a peloton team and was delighted to help.

She said “Ride London was a great day, and with the training rides we really felt part of a team. It is a fantastic event and I am looking forward to taking part again next year!”

The Brentford FC Football in the Community Programme, established in 1987, was amongst the pioneering programmes aimed at engaging football clubs with their communities and has been ranked among the best in the country.
