Romaine Sawyers believes Brentford fans will need to be patient with Rico Henry when he eventually returns from injury.
The 19-year-old left back became the Bees' most expensive teenager when he joined from Walsall on transfer deadline day.
Henry arrived at Griffin Park requiring shoulder surgery after suffering two dislocations and is some way off a return to first team action.
Sawyers also moved to west London from Walsall and knows how good the full back can be.
The midfielder said: “He had a lot of hype around him last year and he backed it with his performances.
“He's got a lot of potential and he's still only young. You need to be patient with him. He's got ability and when he's on fire I don't think I've played with a better left back.
“He's very mature for his age, technically good and he's an athlete.
“It's going to be his first season in the Championship – some people find it hard like myself although I was here at the start.
“With the boys we've got in the changing room who will make his life easier.”
