Skipper Harlee Dean admits Brentford simply did not show up against Fulham last night and didn't deserve anything from the game.

A first half strike from Sone Aluko and a late second from Tom Cairney wrapped up the Whites' first derby win over the Bees in five attempts .

But it could have been an even heavier defeat for the hosts, and the manner in which their rivals were able to dominate proceedings at Griffin Park will have been hard to swallow.

Dean said: “Fulham were good, but we started slow and sloppy and the first half was all theirs. We got back into it second half but never really looked in the game. Clarkey had a one on one, and if he had scored that it may have been different.

“But we haven't got the result tonight, and the performance wasn't great either. A few of the boys out there know they should have performed better, but we're a team, so we'll take it on the chin and go again.

“I didn't think they were specacular. They were good, but we weren't. We knew they would come and press us, and they have a good focal point in Chris Martin. They have good players, and for me, Tom Cairney is one of the best in the Championship.

“But at the same time, we thought we could beat them, and we probably would have if we had shown up. But we didn't turn up and they did. We wanted to win this game, we knew how big and important it was to the fans.”

It's certainly a contrasting emotion for the Bees from this time last week, when they did exactly what Fulham done to them, by dominating and winning well at the home of their rivals .

They now have two weeks to mull it over as well, but one consolation for the Bees is they have made a point in recent times of returning stronger from international breaks.

Dean added: “That's football and this league, never get too high or too low. We've got a break now and a chance to work towards the next game.

“The easy thing would be to say we've got time to work on it now, but I never like to go into an international break losing – we're all disappointed with that.”
