John Egan has been named in the Republic of Ireland's 39-man squad for the Boys' in Green's games against Wales and Iceland.

The Brentford defender has been in fine form for the Bees and, as such, has been named in Martin O'Neill's provisional squad which was announced on Monday morning.

Egan hadn't heard anything on Saturday when asked after the game and his focus was purely on Tuesday's game with Wolves.

The Bees are in mid table obscurity and, by and large, have professional pride to play for for the rest of the season and Egan is looking for a strong run to the end of the season.

He said: “As a footballer, you try and win every game. You don't think too much about the table. It'd be nice to be closer to the play-offs.

“We've got to keep our focus as a run of results can take you far in this league.”

On Tuesday's game, Egan added: “We played Wolves at their place and they were good and organised.

“We expect a tough game against Wolves but we'll believe we can get the win. We've had a good run of results but we need to dust ourselves down and get ready for that.”
