Young defender Tom Field is battling to beat a knee injury ahead of Brentford's home game against Huddersfield.

Having made his debut at the tail end of last season, Field followed it up with 14 appearances this term and has showed his attacking prowess too, netting three goals.

The 19 year old has lost his place to Rico Henry in recent weeks, the summer signing from Walsall having finally recovered from a six-month injury lay-off.

But with Henry showing signs of tiredness, having played four games in 14 days after so long on the sidelines, head coach Dean Smith was keen to throw Field back in at Nottingham Forest, where the Bees won 3-2 on Tuesday night.

He may still be given his chance, however, if he recovers in time to face the title-chasing Terriers this weekend.

Smith said: “It would have been ideal to play Tom Field at Forest, but he's got a swollen knee so he couldn't travel with us. Rico's had to get out there, and although he tired towards the end, he did a good job.”

Another former development squad team-mate of Field's, Reece Cole, was handed his full debut as a late sub at the City Ground, while Justin Shaibu also got a late run out for only his fourth Bees appearance.

Smith added: “We took Jota and Lasse Vibe off to rest them for Saturday, which gave me an opportunity to give some minutes to some young lads too.

“I would probably normally have put Kersch (Konstantin Kerschbaumer) on but gave Reece Cole his debut instead, and gave Justin another 20 minutes.”
