Dean Smith has given Brentford defender Harlee Dean no assurances about returning to the side after his red card against Nottingham Forest.

The centre back, who has been in impressive form this season, saw red in the 2-1 win over the Reds and has missed the last three games, with Smith being in charge of two of them.

Dean could return for tomorrow’s trip to Cardiff City but may have to settle for a place on the bench with replacement Jack O'Connell scoring in the 2-2 draw against Fulham .

Smith said: “Harlee is available for selection but the two lads have done well. Harlee knows it’ll be a test to get back into the team.

Red mist: Dean sees red

“We’ll be looking at the players on Monday and see how they have recovered. We’ll assess with the sports science and medical team and make the decision accordingly.”

The Bees boss will have a selection headache for the trip to the Welsh capital with Maxime Colin also available for selection after a knee injury, although Nico Yennaris has impressed in the Frenchman’s absence.

Smith added: “I’m really pleased with the squad I’ve got. I’ve got Harlee Dean coming back. Maxime Colin is ready, while Andy Gogia had to miss out.

“We’ve got strength in depth Having two games in four games will test us but, with the squad we’ve got I’ve got no worries about that.”
