Andreas Bjelland has found he has had to adapt to the physical nature of English football after playing in the more tactical Eredivisie in Holland.

The Dane is in his first real season in the Championship after missing the last campaign through injury.

And, after six months of playing at Brentford, he admitted has found it an interesting step in his career.

He said: “I think English and Dutch football are not that similar. It's really technical and tactical in Holland but more physical.

“We want to play and develop. It's been interesting to try a new style of play and the opponents we're up against.”

Andreas Bjelland battles for the ball

Brentford's style of play has impressed Bjelland and it was a reason why he decided to try his hand in England after his recent career in Holland.

He added: “Playing the ball out from the back is something I'm used to and taking that into English football is sometimes difficult but the club have been building that.

“We're one of the teams that do that in the Championship.

“That was why I chose Brentford as their philosophy was going in that direction. Some of the teams are more defending then pushing forward.”
