Pep Clotet could be unveiled as the new Brentford manager as soon as next week – having got the the thumbs up from former Bees boss Steve Coppell.

Clotet, who is currently assistant to Swansea City boss Garry Monk, has emerged as the front-runner to be Marinus Dijkhuizen's long-term replacement in the Griffin Park hot seat.

Caretaker-manager Lee Carsley, despite being given the job until the end of the season, has made no secret of his unwillingness to take on the job full time, despite an impressive run of four successive wins earning him the Championship Manager of the Month award for October.

Rubber stamp: Steve Coppell

The Bees have now turned to former Malmo number two, Halmstads and Viking FK head coach, and Malaga reserves manager Clotet, who GetWestLondon understands could be installed within the next seven days.

Clotet also comes with the approval of Coppell, who sees him as one of the brightest young managerial prospects around and recommended him to the Bees.

Coppell was Brentford manager himself for a single season in 2001-02, guiding the Bees to the Division Two Play-Off Final, where they lost 2-0 to Stoke City, before stepping down.
