Mark Warburton is wary of the threat posed by Wigan strike-duo Andy Delort and Oriol Riera - because he tried to sign them this summer!

Brentford were in advanced talks with Delort before the Frenchman eventually joined their Championship rivals instead.

Former Osasuna forward Riera was also on their radar, but signed for Wigan earlier in the close season.

"We know a lot about them," said Warburton, as he prepares his side to try to keep the duo quiet tomorrow.

“Oriol Riera was another player we were very close with who we met on a number of occasions.

“They are good players and you’ve got to scour the market. These names have popped up and we are well aware of their strengths.

“Riera scored a lot of goals in La Liga playing for a team that got relegated. Delort is a strong, physical player who was a leader in his team.

“It’s a testament to Frank [McParland] and Matthew [Benham] that we were in the mix for these players."
