Manager Dean Smith has warned his Brentford side that the battle against relegation is far from won despite today's 3-0 demolition of Nottingham Forest.

Goals from Lasse Vibe, Nico Yennaris and Sergi Canos ended a run of four straight defeats and gave the Bees a nine-point cushion over the bottom three.

A home game against bottom side Bolton on Tuesday night may seem like the ideal opportunity to increase that gap, but as the Bees found out against Charlton recently, no result can be taken for granted.

Smith said: “The worrying situation was that the teams behind us were finding a bit of form, and still are, so we need to make sure we don't rest on our laurels. We still have to go and win football games.

“We should have beaten Charlton and Blackburn on the balance of play, but sometimes you don't win whatever performance you put in. Our performances have merited more than we've got, it's fine margins in football.

“Today's game was very tight until we scored, and in the end it probably looked more comfortable than it was. What we did was take our opportunities and capitalise on some indecision, and the first goal gave us renewed confidence.

“I thought it was derseved. We were very defensively organized and restricted them to very few chances. Maybe they got frustrated because of that. Both sides were struggling for form, and it was a case of being patient but hard to beat, as we knew chances would come our way.

“We've been on a bad run and the lads wanted to put it right. The game hinged on that first goal, but even up until then I was pleased with how organised we were behind the ball. We know our recent run of form hasn't been good enough, but it's important to look at the performances as well as the results.”
