Whatever happens in Brentford's final two games, Dean Smith believes the Bees have made progress in comparison to last season.
The west Londoners finished ninth with a total of 65 points last season and victory against either Fulham or Blackburn would see them overhaul that.
Smith, though, believes that Brentford have made great strides this season, especially in the way they play their football.
He said: “I think we have progressed as a team and as a club from the moment I came in to where we are now whether we pass the points tally or not.
“Our football is better, the style of play is getting there. The players looking better and competing at a higher level in this league.
“We've proven that we can beat top six sides and we need to keep pushing that on.”
Brentford's biggest failing this season has been the losses to current bottom three Rotherham, Blackburn and Wigan away from home, while they drew with the Latics at Griffin Park.
