Mark Warburton believes now is the time the experience of his players who have tasted promotion before will prove invaluable.

Yesterday's 1-1 draw at promotion rivals Ipswich kept Brentford a point and a place above their hosts in the final play-off place, while above them, five teams are separated by a single point.

But the Bees boss believes his side, despite being in their debut Championship season, have what it takes to stay the pace in such a tight promotion race.

He said: “In the players' minds, they are potentially 10 games from a place in the Premier League, and they have created that opportunity.

Experience: Liam Moore, shown in action with Daryl Murphy, won promotion with Leicester last season

“They know they are a good team and there is lot of quality in that side. We are in the top six and have pretty much been there since November, which shows the usefulness of the players.

“We only have one more game against a top eight side, but there is no such thing as an easy run in, and there will be points dropped. Derby dropped two when they conceded two late goals today.

“But we have guys out there who know how to win and have won promotions. Jota did last season, as did Liam Moore with Leicester, and Tommy Smith with Cardiff a couple of years ago, and that can only help us.”

Brentford fell behind to an early Daryl Murphy strike at Portman Road but pulled level through Jonathan Douglas and held in for a vital point.

Although they had the better of the play against a direct and physical Ipswich side, it took a couple of impressive stops from David Button and a glaring open goal miss from Murphy to ensure a share of the spoils.

Warburton added: “That was a big miss. I had just warned them at half time that Ipswich would come out firing at them. They're an excellent club, and it's a tough place to come.

“Everybody seems to think we're happy to get the point, but I don't see it like that. They started hard and fast but until we conceded we were on top, and it was important we got a quick equaliser.”
