Dean Smith is keen to see the togetherness that worked so well at the likes of Leicester and Huddersfield.

The Foxes were surprise Premier League champions in 2016, while the Terriers, tipped to be relegated by Ian Holloway, earned a spot in the top flight via the play-offs last season.

If financial strength was an indicator of how well clubs do then neither side would have been anywhere near those triumphs.

What they had in abundance though was a united club both on the pitch, behind the scenes and in the stands which is something Smith wants to see at Brentford.

He said: “Togetherness has been a common theme at Leicester and Huddersfield. You see the togetherness that was throughout the club.

“It wasn't just the players and the staff; it was the supporters as well.

“The supporters play a massive part and do during the season but we want to improve that bond between all of us so we're pulling in the same direction.”

The easy way to do this is, of course, winning games but a tight-knit relationship built on form can fray as quickly as it binds together.

And Smith is looking at ways for the players and fans to form that bond off the pitch so it translates to a Saturday afternoon.

He added: “We've spoken about how the training ground hasn't been welcoming to supporters. It's been quite a private place.

Dean Smith claps the home fans

“We'd like to open up for a couple of open training events and get supporters come in to see what we do at Jersey Road.

“Something along those lines can help with getting to know one another and fans can see what's happening at the football club.”
