Josh McEachran has been ruled out of Brentford's trip to Ipswich after the leg injury sustained in the 2-2 draw with Bristol City, Dean Smith has confirmed.

The former Chelsea man was stretchered off and receiving oxygen but x-rays have not shown any break.

The club, though, are sending the midfielder for an MRI scan to determine whether there was any underlying ligament damage.

Smith said: “Josh McEachran got stretchered off on Tuesday night. The x-ray was clear which is good news. He'll have an MRI scan this afternoon just to rule anything further out.

“I'm hopeful it's not as bad as first feared and maybe we can look at QPR and Wolves next week if the MRI is okay but Saturday is too early for him.”

Rico Henry on the ball

Rico Henry missed the draw with the Robins but Smith believes the full back will be available again for the trip to Portman Road.

He added: “Rico trained this morning. I'm not sure if he felt any ill-effects or not but he's in contention for the squad on Saturday.”

Sergi Canos has been out of action with an ankle injury, which he sustained in pre-season and Smith is hopeful the forward can return to action as early as next week.

The head coach explained: “He's running. Saturday will be too early for him but there's every possibility for Tuesday or maybe Saturday for him which is really good news as we thought it might be a six-week one.”

Ryan Woods

Ryan Woods has missed the last two games after tragically losing the baby he and his partner were expecting.

The midfielder will, again, be unavailable for Ipswich and Brentford will give him and his family as long as they need to be in a position to return to football.

Smith confirmed: “We're in regular contact with Ryan. Richard O'Kelly went to see him and his partner yesterday and we're trying to reintegrate him into the squad when he feels ready.

“I think that might be the early part of next week which would be good but I'll confirm that with Ryan and make sure he's ready for returning to football.

“It's got to be right for him and they all know that we'll support them in anyway we can.”
