Brentford manager Mark Warburton insisted he has a good relationship with Russell Slade, one year on from their promotion showdown when the Cardiff boss was in charge of Leyton Orient.

The Bees triumphed 1-0 and Warburton celebrated at the final whistle ahead of shaking hands with his Orient counterpart.

Slade wasn't impressed and felt the Bees boss had celebrated like he'd won the FA Cup, however Warburton believes it's water under the bridge.

He said: “It was a huge game and I jumped up and down with a colleague for eight seconds but if you can't enjoy the good moments.

“There's no lack of respect. We went two points clear with two games in hand so for the first time there was daylight after there had been a long period where everyone was winning and stayed until the end of the season. Russell is a good guy, an excellent manager and I get on well with him.”

Brentford won 3-2 in Cardiff thanks to three first half goals but were holding on at the end as Kenwyne Jones caused all sorts of problems in the second half.

And Warburton has looked to ensure the Trinidad and Tobago international does not have the same impact again.

He said: “We watch each game twice the following day and go through the various clips. It's the random nature of the game.

“The guy can be a yard closer. We've got to concentrate on what we do. If we do what we do well we'll be okay.”

Brentford are in the promotion race and, were results to match earlier in the season they would finish second.

Key Man: Jonathan Douglas

But Warburton is not allowing his side to get carried away with the primary focus being on Saturday's game.

He said: “You've got 10 different games coming up. Our last game is against Wigan.

“We spoke at the start of the potential of Uwe Rosler returning to Griffin Park when was in charge. Things change. We've got 10 different challenges.

“We've put five or six wins together earlier this season. If someone now puts a run together. If you can get three or four wins you'll find the landscape changing very quickly.”
