Mark Warburton has insisted he retains a good relationship with Matthew Benham, despite the two men parting company at the end of the season.

The Brentford owner made the decision to go in a different direction where the manager does not have the overall veto on a player.

Fans have been split on the issue since the club confirmed a parting would take place in May but Warburton still respects the owner, who has pumped more than £90million into the club.

In charge: Matthew Benham

He said: “(The relationship is) fine. The club statement was very clear. Cliff Crown spoke very clearly as chairman.

“The fact is they've made the decision they want to take and David and I have to respect it. Cliff referred to it as risk-reward and they’ve taken the risk so that's life. David and I have to get on with it.

“Our job is to do the best we can between now and the end of the season. Everyone at the club is geared on how high can we finish. We've still got a good relationship.”
