Brentford boss Mark Warburton again compared his side to Premier League minnows Burnley following yesterday's win at Cardiff.

Earlier this month, the Bees manager said he takes inspiration from smaller sides who make it into the top flight without breaking the bank, like Burnley, West Brom and Reading.

Burnley upset the odds by beating many bigger budget clubs to Premier League promotion last season.

But if Brentford can continue their current form into 2015 and follows in the Clarets' footsteps, it would be an achievement which overshadows even Burnley's.

Warburton said: “When people say things like that we use Burnley as an example. I know (Burnley manager) Sean Dyche well and they were a team who had one of the smaller budgets in the division, but did magnificently well.

Upsetting the odds: Brentford Manager Mark Warburton

“Everyone said Burnley worked hard and they were committed and no-one spoke about their quality. The same goes for us. Everyone sees us as honest and committed and that is great for us. It means we can go about our business, and hopefully in May we will be in good shape.

“We are in good shape right now, and I think we deserve to be where we are as we have been delivering good performances.”

The Bees led 3-0 at half time at the Cardiff City Stadium through goals from Alex Pritchard, Andre Gray and Jota, but had to survive a second half comeback from the hosts before winning 3-2 to go third in the Championship.

Warburton added: “We told the players an onslaught was coming at half-time and we could have kept things tighter, but we saw it out.”
