Lee Carsley is delighted to see Sam Saunders return to Brentford first team action in the 1-1 draw at Blackburn.

The popular midfielder replaced John Swift in the final 20 minutes and made an impact with his productivity.

And the Bees head coach is pleased to see him back and running without any problems after nearly two years of injury hell.

He said: “It's good to see him back. He's been itching to get back involved. He's an important player in the squad and it was good to have him back.”

Saunders could have come on after 20 minutes but Carsley was keen to protect him and not be in a position where he had to withdraw him later in the game.

He added: “Sam has got a really good delivery and a really good impact. I wanted to make sure the game didn't pass him by.

“He did really well. He looked as if he was ready again. That's a good sign for us.”
