New Brentford head coach Dean Smith will 'drip feed' his ideas as to how he wants to adjust things at Griffin Park to the squad.

The Bees appointed the former Walsall boss on November 30 and the 44-year-old has been impressed by what he has seen so far, culminating in their 2-0 win over MK Dons.

Any new head coach or manager will have their own ideas about how they want to do things but Smith will not be reinventing the wheel at Brentford.

He said: “I've found (my first few days) hectic but really enjoyable. There are a lot of people at the training ground but really good people who want to do well. It's nice to be at the football club where people want to get better – that's half the battle.

“We want to play at an intensity and play what we feel is the right way. I'm not sure if the intensity went up. We've got good footballers here.

Smith added: We've got good players here. This win is down to the work Lee Carsley has put in. We won't be changing too much.

“We'll drip feed a few of our ideas but they're good footballers who know how to play. We want to play a certain way and the lads buy into that.”

Smith's first game against MK Dons got off to a difficult start after Alan McCormack pulled up in the warm-up and was replaced by Sergi Canos but that didn't stop Brentford from securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Karl Robinson's side.

The Bees boss explained: “We had a problem where Macca pulled out in the pre-match warm-up. I knew Sergi was ready to start.

“I think it's best to wait 24 hours to see what's wrong with Macca but with the intensity we want to play and this league you can't take risks so he came off.

“Woodsy came off with a slight thigh. Maxime is coming back and Jota came on for the last 15 minutes and Josh McEachran had to run to his car to be on the bench again. Swifty had a thigh strain but he should be back for next Saturday.”
