Dean Smith has not been surprised by the start Ipswich have made in the league this season.

The Tractor Boys have a 100 per cent record going into the fixture and many pundits had tipped the Suffolk based side to struggle this campaign.

That was brought even clearly into focus when Mick McCarthy's side suffered a 6-0 loss at Charlton in the week before the season.

Smith, though, has not been surprised by anything in the second tier so far this year.

He said: "I'm not surprised by any of the starts. This league is one where a team can get momentum and win football games.

"With no disrespect to Burton, financially, they'll find it hardest in this league but any side can push for the top six, that's for sure."

The Bees head coach is, naturally, expecting a difficult test when Brentford travel to Portman Road on Saturday.

The west Londoners have triumphed once at Ipswich in their history; a 3-1 win in 2016 where Alan Judge broke his leg after a horror Luke Hyam challenge. Last year, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Smith added: "I'm expecting a tough test. It's always a tough test against one of Mick's teams. They've won all four games and played well so it's going to be a test for us.

"They've got a management team that have seen it and done it. We have to concentrate on ourselves and treat them with respect but the important thing is how we approach the game.

"One of my big things this week is making sure the lads believe in what we're doing. It can be very easy when you're not picking up points to lose focus and not believe in what is happening but the performances make me believe we're on the right track to where we want to get to."
