Dean Smith hopes Sullay Kaikai's brace will be the catalyst for a goalscoring run after the winger rescued Brentford against Cardiff.

The Bees trailed to Peter Whittingham's 24th minute penalty before the 21-year-old levelled with a spectacular shot from the edge of the area seven minutes from time.

Kenneth Zohore restored the Bluebirds' lead in the 89th minute when he raced through to score but Kaikai headed home in stoppage time to earn Brentford a point.

Smith said: “I have a lot of faith in him. He’s a really modest, decent young lad and he produces goals like that in training all the time so when you see someone like that come on and do well they thoroughly deserve it.

“He's highly rated at Palace and today we saw why. I hope he can use that to kick on now.”

Kaikai took his tally for the season to three, adding to his goal at Wolves earlier in the season.
