Mark Warburton has backed Tottenham loanee Alex Pritchard to represent the England senior side one day.

The midfielder, who turned 22 on May 3, secured the players' player of the year trophy at the club's end of season awards and was named in the PFA Championship team of the year.

And the Brentford boss has backed Pritchard to make it at the highest level.

He said: “He has that edge to his game. He is 21, May 93 birthday, ability, he has desire, hunger, he still has that side that he has to keep improving on because they are young players.

“It's how you deal with disappointment, that sort of thing but for me, an outstanding talent. He has played 45 games in the Championship, he has graced the Championship this year and there is a lot more to come from Alex Pritchard. No doubt about that at all.

“I think he goes onto grace White Hart Lane. He's got so much ability. He's hungry for more. I think he'll grace the international stage.

“I'd love to see him do well for Gareth Southgate's U21 in the Czech Rep this summer. He's got to deal with many things.

“When you go back to a club that size, you've got to deal with other hurdles. Don't forget he's had a lot of pitch time here.

“It's about dealing with that. But for me, he just has so much ability and he is a very bright young British talent.”

Greg Dyke has been looking to find the 'next Harry Kane' and there is certainly a feeling that Pritchard may be the next shining light off the Tottenham production line.

He added: “I think he's got all the ability. There are a number of players in the squad who've got lots of talent – young players. Alex is one of many who can go to the highest level.”
