Brentford boss Mark Warburton has backed Alan Judge for a shock Ireland call-up after his two-goal blast sunk Notts County.

The Dubliner scored once in each half to come back to haunt his former club in front of watching Republic boss Martin O'Neill.

And Warburton reckons the on-loan Blackburn man, who has appeared for his country at Under-21 and U23 level, is worthy of a placein the squad for the summer friendlies.

"Judgey was excellent," said the Bees chief. "He felt he had a dip in form recently because he sets his standards so high. He's an eight out of 10 every week and dips to a seven, so we'll take that.

"He's a player who needs to enjoy his football. He's happy, getting good pitch time and was very good. I'm sure Martin O'Neill would've been impressed by his performance."

Adan Forshaw's penalty set Brentford on their way as they tightened their grip on second spot with a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened County.

The Bees are six points clear of third-placed Rotherham, with six games to play.

"I thought we played well," Warburton added. "For the first 15 minutes we were a little bit off the pace but after that we we very good.

"We got sloppy at 3-0, but we created a lot of chances and could've been out of sight."
