Huddersfield 1-5 Brentford

Brentford's season came to an end in style as they claimed a convincing victory at Huddersfield.

Sergi Canos opened the scoring after just 21 seconds in what could be the Liverpool loanee's final appearance in a Brentford shirt.

Jamie Paterson equalised soon after half-time but the visitors were soon back in front as Scott Hogan beat the offside trap to make it 2-1 after Konstantin Kerschbaumer's ball sent him clear.

The striker, who had scored five goals in the previous 93 minutes he'd played this season, returned to his normal scoring rate and had his second soon after following another Kerschbaumer through ball.

Lasse Vibe made it four soon after as the Bees went into the summer break in high spirits after securing a top-10 position in the Championship. John Swift rounded off the rout with two minutes remaining.

Dean Smith restored Jake Bidwell to the starting XI after the Brentford captain returned to fitness.

The game had only just got underway when Canos burst free on the right hand flank and slotted the ball under Jed Steer.

Hogan had a chance to double the lead soon after but his effort was blocked by the goalkeeper, who injured himself in the process.

Ryan Woods and Harlee Dean were both booked soon after as Steer was replaced by Lloyd Allinson.

The Bees were happy to sit back and counter for the remainder of the first half, and Hogan should have scored after a delightful ball over the top from Nico Yennaris.

However, they were caught out at the back at the start of the second half as a free kick left the defence at sixes and sevens for Paterson to equalise.

Brentford were back in front soon after as Kerschbaumer fed Hogan in to restore the lead.

It was a carbon copy minutes later as Brentford made it 3-1; the striker rounding Allinson this time.

That was Hogan's last action of the season and he scored seven goals in 163 minutes.

His replacement Vibe got onto the act soon after coming on as he raced through to score at Allinson's near post.

The Bees were cruising and there was time for a fifth as Swift raced in to score.

The final whistle was greeted by boos from the home side and the most pointless pitch invasion of all time – after a 5-1 defeat and finishing 19th.
