Josh Clarke knows he faces a tough battle when the Brentford full back returns to pre-season training at the end of June.

The Bees youngster, who impressed in his first full season in the Championship with two goals coming against QPR and Reading, knows he faces a tough battle to push Maxime Colin, and potentially Henrik Dalsgaard, for a spot in the starting XI.

And the full back will be making sure that, while he enjoys his holidays, that he will return in the best possible condition ready to go again.

He said: “It's going to be tough. Everyone is fighting for their position. Players might come and go. You've got to come back sharp, ready to work again and push harder.”

Dean Smith believes that the Bees can challenge for promotion with the right additions in the summer as well as improving their consistency; something Clarke agrees with.

He added: “We have to be consistent. I think being consistent, we'll get to the play-offs. We've got a side capable of doing it but we have to win games.”
