Jota took home the match ball after the Brentford winger inspired the Bees to victory over Rotherham.

The Spaniard, who returned from Eibar in January, scored his first senior treble, taking his tally to six goals in seven games, and he inspired the Bees to a 4-2 victory over the Championship's basement boys.

The Millers twice equalised, first through Aymen Belaid in the 67th minute and a fine Anthony Forde strike with three minutes left, after Nico Yennaris had put Brentford 2-1 up.

But Jota scored a penalty in the second minute of added time and completed his hat-trick after Lewis Price spilt Sergi Canos' shot in the dying seconds.

Jota en el último minuto

Hat trick hero: Jota

Brentford were treated to not one but two goals by Jota in added time at the end of the second half.

The wing wizard made it 3-2 with a penalty, even though he slipped as he was taking it, before adding a fourth after Lewis Price spilt Sergi Canos' shot.

Remarkably, it is the fifth and sixth time the Spaniard has scored for the Bees in second half stoppage time. The previous four came against Fulham (twice), Wolves and Nottingham Forest in the 2014/15 season.

It is also the first time in his senior career that Jota has scored more than once in a game.

Jota is now the Bees' third highest goalscorer and you wouldn't bet against him overhauling Scott Hogan's tally for Brentford with the wing wizard in this form.

The club need to activate the option on Jota's contract sooner rather than later or, better yet, agree a brand new contract to keep him at Griffin Park for as long as possible.

Brentford must improve

Brentford squad ahead of the game

The 4-2 scoreline flatters Brentford, who were struggling to get out of second gear for most of the 90 minutes.

The Bees, once they had taken a 1-0 and 2-1 lead, failed to really go for the jugular and, as such, allowed Rotherham, who have picked up one point away from home all season, back into the game twice.

There was an expectation at Griffin Park that all Brentford had to do was turn up to win and this transmitted itself to the players. Rotherham will, almost certainly, be relegated at the end of the season but you have to earn the three points.

Thanks to Jota's brilliance, the Bees were able to do that but they must make sure they improve as a team for future tests.

History must not repeat itself

Alan Judge

The Brentford of the last 18 months or so has become too reliant on one man to provide the goals.

In the 2015/16 season it was Alan Judge until his horrific broken leg before Scott Hogan took that mantle this season until his deadline day departure to Aston Villa.

There is no doubting that they were the talismen Brentford rallied around when looking for goals but since Hogan left, goals have been shared around.

However, it appeared against Rotherham that if Brentford were going to score goals then they would look to Jota.

The majority of shots, bar Nico Yennaris' goal, came from the wing wizard who was the man of the match by a country mile.

The attitude of recent games where goals have been shared around needs to continue.

Nicely done Nico

Goalscorer: Nico Yennaris

Nico Yennaris is making a habit of scoring with late runs into the box and the midfielder did the same again against the Millers.

It was a fine cross from Ryan Woods and the former Arsenal man reacted brilliantly to put Brentford 2-1 up.

Yennaris may be struggling with an ongoing calf injury but he has not let that stop him from performing for the Bees.

His mental strength is top class and he has shown his commitment to the cause by playing through the pain barrier.

McEachran missed but Kerschbaumer stepped up

Josh McEachran

Josh McEachran has probably been Brentford's best player since the turn of the year but his absence allowed Konstantin Kerschbaumer to step up to the plate.

The Austrian has not had regular football this season and has, understandably, got a bit of rust in his play but he produced a competent performance to drive the Bees on.

If Kerschbaumer continues to play as he has done then it will not be easy for McEachran to return to the side when he is fully fit again.
