Marinus Dijkhuizen was, naturally, delighted after his injury-hit Brentford came from a goal down to win 2-1 against Preston.

The Bees trailed after 32 seconds after Daniel Johnson's strike but, after Sergi Canos came off the bench, the hosts hit back to claim a 2-1 victory.

The Dutchman was in a bright mood but admitted there were areas the club needed to improve on.

On the performance

“It was a great second half after a poor start. We were struggling in the first 15 minutes. We were getting better but we had to take our chances. Sergi came in and brought in more energy. Everyone needed this win.”

On bringing Sergi Canos on

“Sometimes you are lucky. We know Lasse Vibe is better as a number 10 and Sergi is more of a winger and has given the team a boost. It's Liverpool/Barcelona quality. He's had a good education.

“It's very difficult for the subs to come on given the intensity. He's boosted the team. It was a great half-hour for him.

“It's difficult to say about his role. He's not used to this level. Maybe it's best to play him for half-an-hour. I was surprised by his quality today. I think it's good to bring him in slowly. I think it's best for him.”

On Marco Djuricin

“He scored a very good goal. He missed some chances in the last games but he put himself in the right spot.

“He's good in the 18-yard box. He came from the Red Bull Salzburg bench and has come on with this intensity, which is so different over here. We have to be careful as we saw with Maxime Colin yesterday.”

On the injuries

“The guys who are used to the game and used to the travelling – it's no problem for them. It's no coincidence about the injuries given they weren't playing in the English game.

“I think it's taken them by surprise. I've seen that for myself. It's just pushing on. It's nice to watch but tough for the guys. I think that's why they're picking up injuries.”

On working with Matthew Benham

“Matthew is not involved with me very much. I sit down with Phil Giles and Rasmus Ankersen and my staff. That's enough for me.”
