Marinus Dijkhuizen pulled no punches after Brentford were humiliated at home to Oxford United in the Capital One Cup.

The Bees, who made 11 changes from the side that drew with Ipswich on Saturday, were outclassed by the League Two side and were booed off at the final whistle.

Dijkhuizen spoke to the press afterwards and was grilled on what was an appalling result for Brentford.

On the performance

It was an embarrassing performance for my team. It was a long night for me and also for the crowd and my players. There were a lot of lessons tonight. That's a good thing but the bad thing is we were awful.

On making 11 changes

Brentford in a huddle

"I had a lot of reason to make changes. We had some sick ones on Sunday with Harlee Dean and Alan Judge. Jota was injured. We have the Andre Gray situation and Hofmann played 95 minutes. We had a lot of changes; maybe too much. It's a good lesson for me. I blame myself and I was surprised there was no leadership in the team tonight."

On Bonham

"It was very difficult, especially for them. Of course, he made mistakes and he was unlucky with Roofe's goal. It was Oxford's night. They played very well. Their first three chances were goals. It happens sometimes."

On Bjelland and Yennaris' injuries

Injured: Andreas Bjelland (centre) and England's Danny Welbeck (left) battle

"It was the pitch. He stuck in his feet. I haven't spoken to the medical team but they think it was his knee. Nico Yennaris took a knock."

On Gray

Speculation: Andre Gray

"There's no news. He was training today. I don't want to risk him. Maybe he'll play on Saturday. We'd need to bring a replacement. Strikers are very difficult and very difficult. When he leaves we'll have a big problem. Burnley is new for me. (After being pushed on when): I don't know. The club has the asking price and when a club pays the price. You never know."
