Chris Ramsey hopes Liverpool see sense and keep Brendan Rodgers at the helm.

The man in the opposite dugout tomorrow is under fire at an underachieving club, but if Rogers thinks he’s under pressure, he should have a word with Ramsey.

In the Rs job for barely three months, the coach is staring down the barrel of demotion and the loss of a minimum £120 million for his club.

Ramsey would swap places willingly, but the QPR man admits the Merseyside cauldron demands a Reds hot team – and it isn’t happening right now.

Pressure: Chris Ramsey

“I don’t know if Brendan will get much more time,” Ramsey added. “Ultimately, the pressure cooker of football dictates. Statistically, managers don’t stay in jobs very long, do they?

“He’s done very well to stay bearing in mind the history at the club in the past.

“He’s at a big club, and I’d love his pressure. The implications of leaving the division are huge. There’s more pressure on us than them.

“Brendan’s a young man and how he’s influenced the game in England has been remarkable.

The flak he’s getting has been unwarranted. The thing is when you are at a big club the expectation is so great, you only have to slip up once or twice and people are writing you off.

“He’s been brave insofar as he does his thing and plays the likes of Mario (Balotelli) because he believes in it, and is prepared to take what goes with it.

“It would be good to see more young managers of his ilk,

“In August, he’s going to be a tactical genius again when he wins the first three or four games.”
