Mark Phillips may have to make do with a place back on the bench for Saturday's table-topping clash with Shrewsbury as Bennett is expected to be fit again.
Bennett missed the Morecambe game after picking up a knock on his ankle at Aldershot last Saturday.
But Bees boss Andy Scott said: "Alan could have played against Morecambe, but we would then have probably been without him for the next few games.
"Mark has been waiting for his chance, and after a slow first 10-15 minutes, he got into the tempo of the game and did well.
"It's been unfortunate from his point of view that Jamie and Alan have been doing so well as a partnership, but he's been champing at the bit and took his chance well."
