THE FA have rejected claims by Brentford that Nathan Elder was wrongly red carded by rookie referee Stuart Attwell on Saturday.

The striker was sent off early on during the 1-1 draw with Notts County at Griffin Park, having just returned from an earlier suspension.

Elder disputed that he had raised an elbow when duelling for a high ball near the touchline, but will now have to sit out the next four games against Macclesfield, Aldershot, Shrewsbury and Morecambe.

Bees chairman Gerg Dyke has criticised the decision not to uphold the appeal.

"This is the first time in all the years that I have been involved in football that I have felt compelled to speak out about a refereeing decision," he said.

"Everyone here at Brentford finds the decision incomprehensible. There was not a person in the ground who believed that the decision of the referee was fair and reasonable."
