Despite a 4-2 defeat, Mick Turtle was pleased with the way his Bedfont side stood up to Combined Counties Premier title favourites Chertsey Town on Monday.

The Orchardmen conceded three soft goals early on before pulling it back to 3-2 through a pair of Russell Miner penalties.

And after giving them a scare, Bedfont finally succumbed to a fourth Chertsey goal in the final few minutes to lose 4-2.

But Turtle said: "Nobody gave us a hope in hell against Chertsey, but after the nightmare start we recovered very well and pushed them all the way, playing some good football of our own in the process.

"If I am honest, I would say that we deserved a point. But you cant give teams like Chertsey, with their financial resources, a three-goal lead and expect to get something out of it.

"But we can take positives from the game and work hard in training on the negatives in preparation for the FA Cup game on Saturday."

Two days earlier,Bedfont had won 3-2 at Hartley Wintney, despite having Tim Pitt sent off, thanks to goals from Leon Redhead, Romero Pinto and Jamanhi Henry.

Bedfont host Tiptree United in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday.
