Bedfont Green overcame anything Chertsey Town could throw at them - including two players signed this week from Ryman Premier Ashford Town (Middx) - to grab a draw on Saturday.

When the two teams met back in November, Green waltzed to a 5-0 victory to go top of the Combined Counties Premier.

But Chertsey were determined it wouldn't happen again, so went out and plundered brothers Gavin and Stuart Bamford from Ashford.

But there could be a twist in the tale in that while Gavin was brought in properly under a seven-day approach, Stuart was allegedly poached illegally.

Ashford have made a complaint to the Surrey County FA, and the Combined Counties League may also take action.

Ashford will not let it be swept under the carpet as the Bamford brothers are both first-team regulars, who were persuaded to drop down two leagues.

The situation came as no surprise to Bedfont Green because Chertsey allegedly tried to poach their star player, Chris Henry, in the form of a piece of paper slapped on their board-room table, after he ran them ragged during that 5-0 win.

Surrey County FA secretary Ray Ward said: "Saturday's game is being looked into, while a decision on the allegations (involving Chris Henry) will be made on Monday."

Green included in their squad a new signing of their own, former Chelsea academy player Billy Sentence, who at the age of 15 was playing for the Blues' U19s.

The ex-Ashford Town (Middx), and AFC Wimbledon man, who also turned out for Green three seasons ago, was picked up from Egham.

Kevin Cooper put Green in front five minutes before the break, beating the Chertsey keeper at the second attempt after being put clear by JonBarrie Bates.

Lee Pearce was equal to anything Chertsey could thrown at him, while Lee Grant and Lee Morley defended superbly on the flanks.

But Chertsey were level just after the hour-mark when a defensive mixup gifted John Pomroy an equaliser.

Former Green favourite Aaron McLeish went close twice for Chertsey, but Gavin Hart had the best chance to win it for Green, watching his shot graze the far post. [25a0] WITHOUT the Bamford brothers, Ashford went down 2-1 to Ryman Premier leaders Dover Athletic on Saturday, despite taking the lead through Scott Harris.

It meant Staines Town are 25 points behind Dover in second place after drawing 0-0 at Dartford.
