Joey Barton revealed he got blasted by his QPR team-mates when his dreadful back header nearly cost them a point against Manchester City.

The Rs captain, making his first appearance in seven weeks following a hamstring strain, attempted an impossible pass picked off by Sergio Aguero that nearly gave Barton a heart attack.

The most dangerous striker in the Premier League rounded keeper Rob Green, but the excellent Richard Dunne was on the line to back-heel out of danger.

Moneybags: Yaya Toure and Joey Barton

“I had a bit of a heart-in-the-mouth moment when I saw Aguero bearing down on that header. Fortunately, Greeny didn’t bring him down and he didn’t score because he’s class and sharp," said Barton.

“The lads were giving me a bit of stick, and it was a terrible header.”

Barton came on as a second-half sub for Sandro, who picked up a hamstring strain, and reckoned he was ‘blowing out of my ****’ by the end of the 2-2 draw, but insists Loftus Road is going to be the club’s salvation when it comes to Premier League survival.

“If we play like that it’s not going to be an easy place to come,” he said. “They depended on the best striker in the league by a country mile to bail them out.

“When you have the likes of Yaya (Toure) on £4million pound-a-week and Aguero on much the same,” he joked. “They’re quality operators and that’s the difference sometimes.

“The level of our performance has gone up, and we all had to look inwards when we didn’t perform at the likes of West Ham Spurs and Man United, but we haven’t rolled over here because the fans wouldn’t allow it.”
