Lowestoft Town 1-1 Wealdstone

Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett admits Jerome Okimo could have been sent off in last night’s stalemate at Lowestoft Town.

Scott McGleish opened the scoring for the Stones against their bogey side on Tuesday evening before the Trawlers Boys snatched a share of the spoils in the second-half.

But it could have been different had the referee decided to show an early red-card to Okimo, with Stones boss Bartlett conceding his defender probably should have walked.

“The conditions were not conducive to playing good football and it was very scrappy,” Bartlett said of the performance.

“We had a chance in the first minute and their keeper dropped it. From that they went straight down the other end and Jerome Okimo tried to play the ball back to our keeper, overhit it, and then brought their guy down. I wouldn’t have been surprised at all if he’d sent Jerome off so we got away with that one.

“Glen Little hit the post five minutes before half-time. Then, one of their players played the ball back to the keeper and Scotty McGleish has latched onto it and put it in the net. The linesman flagged initially but of course you can’t be offside from a back-pass. With that and Okimo, to say they were irate would be an understatement.

“We stuck to the task and it was a little bit disappointing in the second-half. I don’t think Jonathan had a save to make really. They nicked the ball off us and equalised. The lads all know it wasn’t one of their best performances. I’m sure we can improve but we got a point away from home against a decent side.”

The result leaves Wealdstone five points off the top in the Ryman Premier. Bartlett’s side have three points in hand on leaders Dulwich Hamlet.
