As Garry Thompson’s penalty rolled into the back of the net, Martin Allen must have been wondering what more his side has to do to pick up their first win of the season.

For the second out of as many League Two matches, Barnet found themselves creating greater opportunities - and better ones - but somehow failing to come away with any points.

After the Bees’ midweek victory against League One Millwall, it appeared that their previous defeat to Leyton Orient was behind them. But once again, chances went begging as John Akinde missed two clear cut opportunities.

Twice in the opening 45 minutes, star striker Akinde callously missed two great one-on-one chances, missing the target on both occasions. And for a player which Allen has backed to terrorise League Two defenses, the imposing forward definitely will be looking for that confidence-boosting strike.

Of course, Wycombe also missed a couple of chances - particularly a stand-out one by Paul Hayes - but for the most part, the Bees were the most guilty culprits.

On his way? Andy Yiadom

And after Wanderers’ initial 15 minute burst in the second half, a double substitution provided the catalyst for Barnet to grow back into the game.

Three penalty appeals in the final half-hour left the Hive in a furious buzz, and plenty of crosses caused problems, but no one seemed to get on the end of them with any serious conviction - and the closest they came was Michael Gash’s sensational overhead kick.

The Bees were incredibly unlucky not to score with that chance, after Ingram’s wonder save, and the hosts seemed dead on their feet afterwards - with the penalty given up the other end an incredibly clumsy challenge.

Allen has admitted that there has been interest in the higher tiers of English football in midfielder Andy Yiadom, who is pivotal to the team. And although he is confident in his ability to replace the player, clearly the Bees are better for him, and his departure could derail their plans.

Chances are aplenty, however, and the Bees will have to end their barren run soon - once the finishing is more clinical Allen’s men will fly up the table. It’s just a matter of time.
