BARNET saw their unbeaten start to the season to the season come to an end at AFC Halifax Town.

Scott McManus  and Lois Maynard scored either side of half-time before Curtis Weston scored a late consolation in a 2-1 defeat for the Bees.

There was one change for Barnet this afternoon with Elliott Johnson returning from sickness to replace Jordan Brown at left-back.

The Bees were also without manager Edgar Davids, the second time he's missed an  away trip following his absence at Gateshead, leaving assistant Ulrich Landvreugd to take charge.

With Davids nowhere to be seen, Halifax took lead 21 minutes.

McManus was allowed time and space to shoot from 25 yards, with Stack unable to do anything about it as it flew into the net.

Barnet's first meaningful chance came on the half-hour when Mark Byrne's free-kick was dealt with uncomfortably by Shaymen stopper Matt Glennon.

Halifax almost got a second on 42 minutes. Maynard was given  freedom to shoot from range, with his effort cannoning off the top of the bar.

Barnet perked up towards the end of the half.

Keanu Marsh-Brown's cross was only just missed by Luke Gambin, and with the last kick of the half, David Stephens hit the underside of the bar with a tremendous half-volley from the edge of the box.

But things took a turn for the worse after the interval as the visitors conceded again on 51 minutes.

Roberto Casabella gave away a free-kick, which was not dealt with by the Barnet defence, allowing Maynard to creep in and smash the ball home.

Barnet did halve the deficit on 70 minutes though. Weston, one of the better players in a below-par performance, curled his shot over Glennon into the roof of the net.

The crossbar again came to the rescue late on as Stack misjudged a Halifax corner and Bees failed to clear the danger.

Marsh-Brown could have snatched a point at the death but his lob rattled off the post.

BARNET: Stack; Yiadom, Stephens, Acheampong (Crawford), Johnson; Byrne, Roberto (Luisma), Weston; Marsh-Brown, Gambin (Vilhete), Hyde.
