Barnet midfielder Sam Togwell will go under the knife on Thursday for a procedure that will rule him out for six weeks.

Togwell, who has made eight appearances in League Two this season, got through the 3-2 defeat to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday but needs surgery to correct an ongoing hernia complaint.

After the game at the Keepmoat Stadium, manager Martin Allen revealed, “This will be Sam’s last game before he goes under the knife.

“He’s done really well for us. He’s been a good player, great in the dressing room and great out on the pitch.

“He’s been carrying it now for two or three weeks but we’ve decided to do it now.”

Togwell’s enforced lay-off leaves the Bees short in the centre of midfield ahead of their meeting with Exeter City on Saturday.

Curtis Weston was not fit enough to make the trip to South Yorkshire at the weekend and Tom Champion is out on loan at Lincoln City until mid-December.

With the emergency loan market no longer an option for Allen, 19 year-old academy graduate Harry Taylor is in line for a recall.
