Gavin Hoyte is set to be side-lined once more for Barnet when they welcome Hartlepool to the Hive tomorrow.

The right-back was given a standing ovation by teammates after an all but flawless performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Wycombe, his first appearance in a Bees’ shirt since suffering knee ligament damage back in January.

His latest comeback though has proved short-lived as he limped out of Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at basement boys Newport.

The good news is it is not a recurrence of the same injury as boss Martin Allen later confirmed.

"Gavin Hoyte was outstanding on Saturday and thankfully, the big result for us tonight, is it’s not his knee – it’s a hamstring strain," he told fans on the club’s website.

After four points from six on their travels this week, Bees will be keen to improve on a record of just one win in seven home fixtures so far this term.

To do so they will have to overcome a Hartlepool side one place above them whose three wins this season have all come on the road and who have lost just one of their last six visits to the Bees.

Inevitably much of the focus for the hosts will be on giant striker John Akinde, whose double in south Wales on Tuesday took his tally for the season to 11.

What impresses manager Allen though is recently the target-man has brought more than his goals to the table.

"John has been outstanding in his last two games and Wycombe on Saturday was his best performance of the season by far.

“Tonight (Tuesday) he was right on his game. He’s been scoring goals but he has needed to work on his performances – which he has.”
