Barnet’s Michael Nelson is delighted at having put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal at the Hive.

The experienced defender has played for Norwich, Hartlepool and Scunthorpe amongst others, and will help patch up the Bees’ backline ahead of their forthcoming League Two campaign.

And Nelson is convinced that he is the right man to help the Bees at least survive their upcoming campaign back in the football league.

“I’ve made over 600 appearances at this level so I know what the league is about – both what it takes to survive in it and also get out of it so hopefully I can bring a little bit of that experience.

“At the moment I am just concentrating on trying to be in that starting eleven next week.”

Animated Allen: The Bees boss directs operations

Nelson, who has known manager Martin Allen since his time at Portsmouth as a player, is relishing the opportunity to work under him.

And he is feeling the benefits of a full pre-season with the Bees as they look to the season ahead.

“It is brilliant. It has been nice being down here from the start of pre-season with the boys, they have made me very welcome and I have settled in quite well.

“It is nice to have been here from the start and now everybody is just raring to go for the game next week.”
