Martin Allen has revealed he is far from happy with top goalscorer John Akinde ahead of the Barnet’s League Two match with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Akinde netted his 17th and 18th goals of the season in the 3-0 win over Leyton Orient last weekend to secure his best ever Football League tally.

But Allen has demanded a great deal more from the target man next season as eight of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

He said: “No I’m not that pleased with him to be honest.

“There are about half a dozen penalties in that number so no I expect and want more from him.

“This has been his most successful season in the football league but John would be the first to say that his goals from open play are not enough.

“We need more than that for us to really kick on and be successful.”

The Bees are in 15th place and have nothing to play for during the remainder of the campaign having secured safety from relegation.

Akinde is a doubt for the match tomorrow with a knock while Sam Muggleton, Curtis Weston and Andy Yiadom have also been ruled out.

The first team were given three days off training this week and Allen is prepared to make changes for the clash in order to give debuts to some of the youngest members in the squad.

He said: “We are prepared to do similar to what we did away at Accrington and Exeter where two young lads made their debuts.

“We are going to give another couple of the lads debuts for Saturday’s game.

“We want to make a few changes to the team that did so well against Orient.

“We want to keep the whole squad involved and there are a couple of injuries.”
