AFC Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley took his players back to school this January by holding one-to-one progress reviews with the squad.

Each player spoke with the Dons boss for 20 minutes in wide-ranging discussions aimed to help formulate a plan to push the club forward.

Ardley gave the players feedback and it seemed to yield instant results as Wimbledon ended their seven game winless run with a 3-0 thrashing of Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

“I spoke to all the players,” Ardley said this week. “I have half-season reviews with all the players. Every single player in my squad has had 20 minutes with me. We talked about personal stuff, about everything going on in their lives, talked about form and about where I want to take them.

“One thing I hope they take away from it is that I care. I care about their development, I care about making them better and if making them better gets them in the team then great. Every player should walk out of that room with me knowing the direction we are going in.”

Having waited so long for a win, Ardley was relieved to finally get the three points at Adams Park.

But the Kingsmeadow chief says the club has always been making strides behind the scenes in areas that the fans aren’t always aware of.

“We're doing so much good stuff behind the scenes but ultimately, what happens at three o'clock is what everybody sees and that's been tough for seven games,” added the Wimbledon manager. “If you look back through the seven games we haven't done a lot wrong.”

Ardley will be hoping to get that winning feeling again on Saturday when Torquay are the visitors in another League Two clash.
