Fernando Torres is hoping the arrival of Cesc Fabregas can finally help him find the goals that have largely eluded him during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The striker joined Chelsea for a massive £50million fee on January transfer deadline day back in 2011 but has only found the net just 20 times in the Premier League for the Blues.

He is pleased to have compatriot Fabregas on board for next season after the 27-year-old signed a five-year deal at the west London club last week.

The pair know each other well from their time on the international scene together and are both part of the Spanish World Cup squad out in Brazil this summer.

Torres believes the diminutive midfielder has the eye for a killer pass, something perhaps the more combative trio Nemanja Matic, Ramires and John Obi Mikel are lacking.

"I wish he could have joined us a couple of years earlier," Torres told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"He is a blessing for strikers, he always looks to find that final key pass, he's the type of player Chelsea don't have."

Torres’ place will come under further pressure when another Spain star, Diego Costa, completes his move to Stamford Bridge.

Despite the imminent arrival of Costa and the added competition for a starting berth, Torres says he is happy to have another familiar face in the dressing room next term.

"People have been saying for some time that Chelsea have signed a striker, and if it's Diego, then it's very welcome," Torres added.

"The level of competition at big clubs should always be very high."
