Neal Ardley is hopeful AFC Wimbledon can achieve their highest Football League points total after grabbing a last-gasp draw at Northampton last night.

Wimbledon are becoming late-goal specialists after Sammy Moore plundered a last-minute equaliser against the struggling Cobblers to make it three successive games in a row that the Dons have struck in stoppage-time.

George Francomb had opened the scoring at Sixfields but Jack Midson was sent off for handball and Northampton turned the tables as Darren Carter grabbed a double.

The 2-2 draw leaves 13th in the League Two table, on 48 points, with seven games and 21 points still to play for.

AFC Wimbledon’s debut season in the league in 2011-12 saw them finish the campaign with 54 points, a total the ambitious Ardley reckons his boys can surpass this year.

“Credit to the boys because it shows the strength in our squad that we can miss those players and still put out a team to get a result,” Ardley told Dons Player.

“We are still striving to finish as high as we possibly can. I think 54 points is the most we have got in the league. We want to try and top that and say that it has been AFC Wimbledon’s best season in the league.

“We scored in the 97th minute at Burton, the 96th minute on Saturday, and the same again tonight. I would be stunned if our fans did not go home proud tonight. The players scrapped for absolutely everything.”

Danny Hylton missed the clash through illness and injured duo Darren Jones and Kevin Sainte-Luce were also ruled out.
