Neal Ardley was left feeling flat after his team 'let him down' in the first-half of today's 2-2 stalemate with Newport County.

The Dons boss cut a frustrated figure as he came out to confront the press at Kingsmeadow this evening.

Kwesi Appiah's first goal for the club and a second-half George Francomb strike saw Wimbledon come back from two goals down.

But the recovery was not enough to lift the spirits of a disappointed Ardley, who was furious with his team's first-half display.

“I'm flat today,” Ardley said.

“I'm flat because of what I saw in the first-half and I'm disappointed. Some will probably feel it's a good point gained because of the difficult start, but I'm flat because we should've won the game in the second-half. We live to fight another day and I want to finish the season strong.

“When you're 2-0 down a minute after the first-half it's a good point. When you're 2-0 down after the way we played in the first-half it was a good point. We should've never been in that position if the place though.

“I thought we could've been 3-0 down at half-time. One thing I will say to these fans though is that we've got a team of players with a bit of character about them because as much as we'd like to be scoring first, these players show a lot of mettle.”

Ardley was left with plenty of work to do in the dressing room at the break after Chris Zebroski's goal gave the Exiles the lead at the interval.

He made a double substitution, bringing on Chris Arthur and Danny Hylton, but admits he didn't think he'd have enough time to address all of his concerns in the 15-minute break.

“I knew at half-time it was going to be hard to tell the players everything I needed to,” Ardley added.

“They had gone out and done the opposite of everything we've been working on for six weeks. They let us down in the first-half and in the second-half we saw everything we've worked on for six weeks.”
