Newly-appointed Chelsea manager Antonio Conte dropped into the club’s training ground on Tuesday to introduce himself to the squad.

The Italy chief was this week confirmed as the man to take over from Guus Hiddink when the interim boss steps down from his post in the summer.

Conte was keen to make his presence felt and took the opportunity to spring a surprise visit on the players with technical director Michael Emenalo.

He watched on from the sidelines for the final few minutes of a training session before holding a meet and greet with the Blues stars at the Cobham training complex.

Conte then had a brief chat with Hiddink, according to The Sun, while he faces allegations back in his home country as part of a match-fixing scandal.

Prosecutor Roberto Di Martino is seeking a suspended six-month match-fixing sentence for Conte as the trial got underway with a hearing without the new Blues boss.

The 46-year-old is accused of sport fraud in 2010 to 2011 when he was coach of Siena, with the club’s 1-0 win at Albinoleffe in May 2011 being probed.

Siena's 2-2 draw at Novara, also in May 2011, was dropped from the inquiry.

Conte, who has denied wrongdoing , served a four-month ban during the 2012 to 2013 season during his time at Juventus after failing to report fixing at Siena.

A ruling on the matter is not expected until the middle of May, leaving question marks hanging over the coach in the interim period.

But given even a guilty verdict would result in a six-month suspended jail sentence, there are no barriers preventing Conte from taking charge at Chelsea as planned.

Conte has agreed a three-year contract with Chelsea worth £6.5million a season and has been tasked with restoring them to the top of English football.
